Yesterday our Incredible Edible package arrived! We were very excited! The package contained live plants so we had to be so quick! 

We don't have to stay in our pods anymore so we could learn about the plants on the floor (how exciting!). We learned some new vocab and planted the strawberries. 

After that we all got a chance to plant! 
We each put in a handful of soils and sprinkled the seeds!

Wow! Look at this fantastic home learning. 

Our home learning for this week was to find some fruits and veg in the shop/their houses.

Sarah L's class went for a walk!
They went to look for a place to grow our grow packs! We noticed a few places but we decided on the garden beds beside our outdoor classroom and bug hotel!

We have a lot of weeding to do!
On our walk we also spotted some frost!

Child in Sarah L's class looked at the fruit at his home!  It's amazing to see where our food comes from! Great work!

A child in Ruth's class found grapes from Namibia in Africa, potatoes from Ireland, and Broccoli from Spain! Super work!

We are asking you to look up where the food in your home comes from!

Can you look at the label and notice where it comes from etc country, farm?
If it is a processed food can you guess what it starts out as? (e.g. bread starts off as grains.)

Chat with the children about where their lunch comes from. The easiest and most engaging way to start is by try tracing your food from your lunchbox, to your home, to the supermarket and back again to the farm!

This is the summary of the programme.

'Incredible Edibles is a healthy eating project for primary schools. The aim of the project is to educate students about growing fruit and vegetables and to increase their knowledge of food origin and quality. It also highlights the important role that fresh produce plays in a healthy balanced diet and the importance of consuming at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. Participating schools are sent free grow packs that contain seeds to grow strawberries, potatoes, lettuce, spinach, chives, carrots and turnips, as well as other materials to help them get started growing!'
